Three Experimental Dance Performances by New York City Artists at Franklin Street Works

Please join Franklin Street Works for Stamford’s second annual ARTWALK in Stamford Downtown on Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28. Franklin Street Works presents three performances as part of the current exhibition “Showing the Work,” which is curated by Sarah Fritchey and explores experimental dance in the gallery setting. These free, public performances by New York artists and choreographers will activate Franklin Street Works’ galleries during a series of one-night-only events.

On Friday, June 27th at 7:15 pm, siblings Ezra and Tatyana Tenenbaum will perform “Prologue” from Private Country, a duet created over the course of two and half years. The fourteen-minute piece is the result of embodied research into the continuum between spoken word and pitched singing.

One hour later, at 8:15 pm, Claudia La Rocco will perform I just need one word and I can tell you everything, a 25-minute solo performance in language, in which the body of the perfomer is rendered only through text. La Rocco explains, “I just need one word and I can tell you everything attempts to map the collision of internal and external realities.”

On Saturday, June 28, choreographers Jen McGinn and iele paloumpis will present not unordered in not resembling, at 7:00 pm. Mapping through tape and sound, the 40-minute performance provides a landscape for movement to reveal individual and collective experiences. McGinn and paloumpis describe the piece as an “episodic journey through memory, disorientation, and altered states of consciousness” that creates a nonlinear structure in which all ideas have the possiblity of connecting to all other ideas. not unordered in not resembling will be performed by Jen McGinn, iele paloumpis and Joanna Groom in Franklin Street Works’ upstairs gallery.
