STAMFORD, CT — Police said two people were found dead inside a vehicle Thursday and a third person died after being rushed to a hospital. Capt. Richard Conklin said two people, a man and a woman, were found dead inside a Toyota RAV4 parked near the intersection of Dale Street and St Benedict's Circle around 9 a.m.

Conklin said a third person was also located inside the car and initially showed signs of life. He was rushed to Stamford Hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead later that afternoon, Conklin said. (To sign up for Stamford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

According to Conklin, police were called to the area after someone in the neighborhood reported seeing three people who appeared to be "in distress" inside a car.

The caller had seen the vehicle earlier that morning, around 5:30 a.m., but "didn't think anything of it," Conklin said. The caller later returned to the area and noticed the people inside the vehicle were in "roughly the same position" and it "looked like something was amiss," Conklin said.

The vehicle has been towed to police headquarters and officers will process it after obtaining a search warrant, Conklin said.

"Although the investigation is ongoing," Conklin said to Patch, "it appears that it could be a drug overdose or poisoning."

The captain was unable to say if any of the people found inside the vehicle lived in the area. The road was closed for several hours but is now open.
