Two 40-plus-year-old office buildings in downtown may soon be converted into apartments, providing the developers get approval from the city's .

According to a report in the Stamford Advocate, commercial property owner Mario Lodato wants to convert a five-story, 27,000-square-foot building at into 21 residential units; while developer Randy Salvatore is seeking to turn a two-story, 21,000-square-foot office building at 1200 Bedford Street into 16 housing units. The city's zoning board held public hearings on the two separate applications during its meeting last week at the Government Center.

Such conversions are reportedly in keeping with the City’s plan of development, which calls for more residential properties in downtown. What’s more, smaller, older office buildings have been having a difficult time finding tenants in this current economy.
