Volunteers Assemble Emergency Kits For Americares In Stamford
The kits contain essential hygiene items, and are distributed to people affected by natural disasters and other emergencies worldwide.

STAMFORD, CT — Volunteers assembled 1,500 emergency kits for disaster survivors at the Americares global distribution center in Stamford on Tuesday, Nov. 29, in celebration of Giving Tuesday.
More than 40 employees from longtime corporate supporters, including Odyssey Group, Quest Diagnostics, Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey LLP and U.S. Chemicals, A Woman-Owned Business, participated.

The kits contain essential hygiene items, including soap, shampoo and toothpaste, and are distributed to families displaced by tornados, hurricanes, flooding, wildfires and other emergencies worldwide. Hygiene kits are among the most frequently requested items in the aftermath of emergencies that force survivors from their homes.
Americares responds to an average of 30 natural disasters and humanitarian crises worldwide each year, establishes long-term recovery projects and brings preparedness programs to communities vulnerable to disasters.

"Delivering hygiene supplies to displaced survivors helps to provide comfort—and maintain good health—on what is often one of the worst days of their lives," said Americares Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer Jenny Goldstein in a news release. "Having these kits assembled and ready to ship allows us to quickly respond the next time disaster strikes."
Launched in 2012, Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and the generosity of people around the world. The annual event, celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, kicks off the charitable giving season.
Founded by New York City’s 92nd Street Y, Giving Tuesday inspires millions of people to give back and support causes they believe in.
