Woman Is Accused of Slashing Ex-Boyfriend and Herself Following Break-Up

Stamford Police say the woman initially reported the man put a gun in her mouth.

A woman is facing assault and disorderly conduct charges after she called Stamford Police screaming that her boyfriend put a gun in her mouth and that she hit him in self-defense.

When nearly a dozen Stamford Police officers arrived at the South End apartment they had to break down the door to the residence where they found the man bleeding profusely from the head and neck, according to Lt. Diedrich Hohn.

“It was a violent domestic,” Hohn said. The man, apparently had broken off his relationship with the woman and she broke into the home after a series of texts and phone calls, according to Hohn.

“She was screaming … ‘If I can’t have you, nobody can,’ “ Hohn said of the incident that happened early Saturday morning on Woodland Place. “We had to bust down the door to get. It was a crime scene with all of the blood all over the place … in the hallway, the kitchen and the bedroom.”

The woman, identified as Maria Genao, 24, of Adams Avenue, Norwalk, told police that the man, identified as Xavier Reyes-Mejia of Woodland Place, Stamford, had threatened her and placed a gun in her mouth. Genao also had a large cut along the side of her face.

Officers found a BB gun in a dresser drawer. “There was not one speck of blood on it,” Hohn said. “She just lost it. She was intoxicated,” Hohn added.

Police later able to obtain security video recorded by a camera outside the house and on it they saw Genao outside the house then break a bottle before entering the house. Hohn said Genao slashed herself in an attempt to make it appear she was attacked by Reyes-Meija.

Hohn said that police are meeting with prosecutors to determine whether additional charges including falsely reporting an incident may be lodged against Genao.

Genao initially was held in lieu of $50,000 bond. During a Stamford court appearance, her bond was reduced to $25,000 and she was released after it was posted. She is due back in court June 30.

Reyes-Mejia was charged with threatening and disorderly conduct.
