Yale-New Haven Health and Greenwich Hospital Open a New Multi-Disciplinary Outpatient Medical Building Designed by SLAM
Glastonbury, Conn., September 14, 2016 —Yale New Haven Health (YNHH) and Greenwich Hospital officially opened the doors to a new outpatient medical office building in Stamford. Designed by The S/L/A/M Collaborative (SLAM), the new YNHH Greenwich Hospital Multi-Disciplinary Outpatient Center consolidates an array of both practice and related provider-based services into the community, affording patients the convenience of integrated patient-centered care closer to home.
Working within the constraints of the existing footprint, including a central elevator core and supporting functions, SLAM architects were challenged to bring cohesiveness and logic integrating the practice spaces and hospital-based outpatient diagnostic and treatment facilities into a single floor. The new 52,000-SF facility comprises physician practice space, laboratory functions, imaging, occupational and physical therapy, infusion, and features a comprehensive Center for Musculoskeletal Care, representing an emerging center of excellence for the system.
The alignment of central waiting areas forms a “spine” joining the two portions of the fit-out together and supports an “on-stage/off-stage” organizational model to enhance patient privacy, staff productivity, efficiency, and to foster team-based collaboration. The elongated waiting areas provide access to distinct entries into self-contained exam clusters containing the physician practices and various diagnostic services which share registration and waiting functions.

Within the exam clusters, pairs of alternating, adjoined exam and consult rooms provide flexibility based on patient demand for particular specialties, and allow for patients and physicians to enter and exit as needed. These rooms are designed to break down barriers between the patient and their physician, emphasizing face-to-face communication and increased patient engagement.
“YNHH Greenwich Hospital represents one of SLAM’s longest healthcare client relationships, and this facility exhibits the latest in clinical planning, design and most importantly, YNHH Greenwich Hospital’s commitment to delivering care closer to the communities they serve,” says Daniel J. Fenyn, AIA, SLAM Healthcare Market Sector Leader. “The facility features treatment spaces for growing programs, including musculoskeletal care, rehabilitation, and cancer care, among others, while being flexible to accommodate changing needs.”
