STONINGTON, CT — A cemetery clean-up day will be held in Stonington this weekend.
The free event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Thomas Miner Cemetery on Wilcox Road.
Parking is available at the Quimbaug Cove Professional Center.
All cleaning supplies will be provided, interested participants should bring their own work gloves.
The event is from Historic Stonington and Stonington’s America 250 Committee, which have partnered with the Town’s Cemetery Commission and the Abigail Hinman Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
The program will begin with a brief cleaning demonstration and discussion about best practices when it comes to caring for and cleaning old headstones, according to a statement.
Volunteers will then be set loose to help clean up the cemetery with light, general yardwork and headstone cleaning.
At the close of the program will be a discussion of the life and service of the two Revolutionary War veterans who are buried there.
"This program is a great way to experience hands-on history, and remind us of our duty of stewardship for these historic cemeteries," according to the statement.
