2012 Pineapple Awards for Excellence in Tourism. Eastern Connecticut's Winners.

Congratulations to the 2012 Pineapple Award winners from Eastern Conn. The "Pineapples" recognize excellence in State tourism and include those volunteering time and talent to the industry.

The Eastern Connecticut Regional Tourism District/Mystic Country has announced the 2012 Pineapple Award winners from Connecticut’s Eastern District. Pineapple awards are State of Connecticut tourism industry awards recognizing excellence in tourism.

The awards were given out by Randy Fiveash, Director of the Connecticut Office of Tourism, at the Connecticut Conference on Tourism, Thursday, May 17, 2012.  Pineapple Awards go to people and businesses in the state’s three tourism regions. The 2012 winners (and nominees) from Eastern Connecticut are:

Winner: The Inn at Harbor Hill Marina, Niantic

Nominees also included: Mystic Aquarium, Mystic and the Putnam Business Association, Putnam

Tourism Ambassador:

Winner: Fort Hill Farm and Farmer’s Cow, Thompson

Nominees also included: Hall Radio Group, Norwich and Olde Mistick Village Merchant’s Association, Mystic.

Excellence in Tourism Service and Hospitality:

Winner: Sarah Spencer, Mystic Seaport

Nominees also included: Kate Abel, Whaler’s Inn/Steamboat Inn, Mystic and Andrew Quinto, GM Microtel Inns and Suites, Norwich.

Volunteer of the Year:

Winner: Rita Rivera, Little Print Communications, New London

Nominees also included: Corinna Ferguson, VisitNewEngland.com and Karen Osbrey, WINY Radio, Putnam.
