An Update on the Town of Stonington Prescription Card

I wanted to update the progress of the Town of Stonington Prescription Card program. ProAct had a brief delay mailing the cards out from their Syracuse, N.Y. post office hub and they will be sent now on January 21, 2013. Cards will begin arriving as early as January 22 but may take up to January 26 for all residents to receive. These cards will also be available at Human Services Department and local pharmacies.

I am proud as this new program, facilitated by the town, will provide immediate fiscal relief at the pharmacy counter for uninsured and underinsured residents and offers the following benefits:

• Anyone can participate regardless of age or income;
• The program is completely free to participating residents;
• Cost savings average 45 percent;
• All prescription medications are covered, including pet medications obtained at participating pharmacies;
• There are over 63,000 participating pharmacies nationwide, including CVS, Rite-Aid, Walgreens, Wal-Mart, Stop and Shop, Big Y, and many independent pharmacies.
• Discounts are also offered on other medical services including vision, hearing and Lasik services.

There are no enrollment forms, membership fees, restrictions or limits on frequency of use. Cardholders and their family members

You are encouraged to use the cards any time their prescriptions are not covered by insurance.

As an example, for the six towns that launched the program in late September/early October, the discounts on prescriptions have averaged 48 percent with over 390 prescriptions filled
