New Beginnings

In September of 2012 I drove across the United States alone after living most of my life somewhere near the Pacific Ocean: Alaska, California and Japan. There were a brief few years where I lived in Vermont and Connecticut when I was very young, my ancestors arrived in Providence, RI in 1635; my grandfather headed for Califonia in about 1960 and never looked back. My parents were both born and raised in Vermont. They did not speak like Californians. But they were never inclined to return to the east coast save for a rare visit though they missed New England deeply. One day I realized that I needed to reverse that drive across country that my grandfather made. Peculiar as it was, I felt I was being called home. And I was determined to live in Stonington Borough. I spent October of 2012 with a friend in Massachusetts as I searched for a place to live, and after Sandy finished, the power was restored and the movers could fit me in, I settled into the Boro in November. Everything I am seeing is with fresh eyes. And yet it is so familiar. I am discovering historical family connections I never knew existed. And as I walk about I take a lot of photos, primarily with my iPhone 5. I hope you enjoy my journey of discovery. Perhaps you will see things in a fresh new way through my eyes.
