• CT's most famous puppeteer is retiring. Why the glorious puppets are not going quiet any time soon. (courant.com) — A longtime leader of UConn's Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry, based on the main campus in Storrs, is retiring after nearly two decades of growing its collection, reputation, and community events. John Bell helped relocate and expand the museum, brought major festivals and political puppet performances to town, and mentored students whose work now appears on national and international stages.
• UConn women's soccer scores as time runs out to beat BU (ctpost.com) — UConn women's soccer opened its season with late-game drama right in Storrs, edging Boston University 2-1 on a goal confirmed after a lengthy video review at Morrone Stadium. Southington native Jess Carr scored her first career goal as time expired, capping a comeback that began with an 87th-minute equalizer and giving the Huskies a 1-0-2 start.
