A waste land and parking lots come together on Main Street

The redevelopment or the actual underdevelopment of the commuter parking lots on Main Street has become a waste land.
At one point back years ago there was a plan  to have a parking garage built on land adjacent to the train station on the eastbound side of the tracks.
That went up in smoke when the local, state and federal government could not get together on funding.
There are people in town who still believe it will happen.
Forget it.
Then there was the massive redevelopment plan that would have parking space all the way down to the "99" Restaurant.
I was shown the plans.
There is a wonderful bridge in Brooklyn that is still for sale.
The sticks for the development are still rotting in the ground.
Forget it.
A house was knocked down, a doctor's office was forced to move along with the Last Call Wine and Spirit Shop.
The doctors are not happy at their forced new location.
Joe the owner of the liquor store,  is in a constant battle to find enough parking spaces for his customers in the store's new location and the loss of walk in business from commuters getting on and off of Metro North.
The private owner of a parking lot adjacent to the Camelot Apartments "sold" the parking lot which is now designated as the "K" lot.
Parking lot "K" has never, I repeat never, been more than half full.
The lot where the two buildings once stood looks more like Dresden in World War II then a parking lot.
A half up rooted tree, broken sidewalks, dirt, broken asphalt and broken wood fence railings all designate the lot with no name next to lot "K".
I understand commuters want to get off the train and make a short a walk as possible to their cars.
Battle field conditions are not needed.
Still, I have badgered the town, who is responsible for the clean up in the lots to pave the trails from lot "K' to the station for over a year.
No results.
The lot with no name provides a true walking challenge to commuters, climbing over the broken fences, tripping up the trail or braving the semi destroyed sidewalk to get to their trains or coming home from work.
There is no real lighting in the no name lot and the sidewalk from the lot to the westbound side of the station does not have a street lamp until you arrive at the station.
There are now four driveways, the Camelot Apartment driveway, lot "K' driveway, the no name lot driveway and the main parking lot driveway which all pump out traffic on to the northbound lanes of Main Street.
Adding to the traffic mess is traffic from the parking lot of the Station House Square lot and traffic turning off from Broadbridge Avenue.
There are also people who are trying to get into the Station House Wine Bar and Grill.
At one point, one bright light, wanted to do away with the round-a-bout in front of the restaurant and replace it with parking spaces.
Bad idea, very, very bad idea.
For those drivers who do not understand the traffic pattern for the round-about.
When entering the lot you stay to the right around the round-about and when leaving the parking lot you stay to the left.
Unless you are in the U.K. where the pattern is reversed.
Sooner or later there is going to be a mass casualty incident on Main Street between the main parking lot and the apartment building.
Drives are forced to cross on coming traffic on both the northbound lanes and the southbound lanes as they attempt to enter the different parking lots.
I have been told that two weekends ago two persons, a man and a woman, armed with what look like plans were prowling around the no name lot  point at this and pointing at that.
At one point they both allegedly looked to the sky, allegedly hoping for divine intervention.
Lots or luck.
This walk around will probable indicate there will be movement probably by NEXT summer to recreate the parking lots.
The only ones who will probably benefit from the present parking mess is the  Toma's de Torquemada (STFD P.D.) who will no doubt reap lots and lots of overtime when they are called in to direct traffic AFTER the first MAJOR accident in the area.
Only in Stratford kiddies, only in Stratford.
