Alabama Dog Rescuer Charged with Animal Cruelty in Stratford

State Police say the woman was hauling nearly 30 dogs in crates stacked up on top of each other in a trailer with no ventilation.

The owner of an Alabama dog rescue was arrested in Stratford on Sunday night after State Police said she was hauling nearly 30 dogs in a trailer that had no ventilation with temperatures reaching 96 degrees inside, according to the Connecticut Post.

The Post reports Deanalyn Reing, 49, who is on probation for animal cruelty in Alabama, had the dogs in crates stacked up on top of each other and had traveled from New York to Rhode Island and was on her way to New Jersey before being pulled over.

Police said the dogs appeared to be in distress and were transported to local animal hospitals, according to the Post.

Reing is the owner of Southern Dogs Rescue in Alabama and was sentenced to two years of supervised probation in February after she was found guilty of five counts of second-degree cruelty to animals, according to The Plainsman.com.

As part of her probation, Reing is not allowed to house more than 25 dogs in her Coosa County shelter without checking with her probation officer and the judge also ordered her to take an online class on the welfare and behavior of animals, according to The Plainsman.com.
