Stratford Baseball Team Wins Thriller Over Brookfield: Stratford High School Sports Roundup

The Stratford baseball and girls tennis teams each picked up recent victories.

STRATFORD, CT — The Stratford High School baseball team captured its second straight league victory in dramatic fashion, defeating Brookfield 6–5 in a thrilling walk-off win.

Starting pitcher Blake Merfalen delivered a strong performance, going 5 2/3 innings and leaving the game with a 3–2 lead. Brookfield capitalized on a series of walks and timely hitting to take a 5–3 advantage late in the game.

Showing resilience and determination, Stratford rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring three runs to secure the victory.

Junior Jack Wiltsie led the offensive effort with three hits, while Julian Rivera added two hits and scored the game-winning run on a clutch hit by co-captain Eli Jimenez.

The Red Devils will look to continue their momentum with a road game against New Fairfield on Monday, April 27, before returning home to host Joel Barlow on Wednesday, April 29 at 4:15 p.m.

The Stratford High School Girls’ Tennis team also delivered an impressive performance, earning a 5–2 victory over Notre Dame through strong play and depth across the lineup.

In singles competition, Sofía Barrios and Kaylene Leon faced tough opponents at first and second singles. While the results did not go their way, both players competed with determination and composure.

Ashly Amador Fuentes secured a hard-fought 7–5, 6–2 win at third singles, and Lily Flockhart dominated at fourth singles with a commanding 6–0, 6–0 victory.

The doubles teams proved to be the difference-maker for Stratford.

Daniella Paisley and Amileyann Gonzalez won a tightly contested first doubles match 7–5, 7–6. Maggie LaReau and Leonella Heredia added a 6–3, 6–3 win at second doubles, and Denae Sierra Meza and Ariz Salinas closed out the match with a 7–5, 7–5 victory at third doubles.
