STRATFORD, CT — No injuries were reported and two pets were rescued from a two-alarm fire on Monday morning in Stratford, according to officials.

Arriving crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof and rear of the structure.

“These fire conditions prompted an upgraded response to a second alarm assignment to include the remaining on duty companies and mutual aid coverage,” according to the news release. “Crews worked quickly to establish a primary water supply and initiated fire ground operations. The aggressive fire attack by fire companies was a determining factor in the rapid extinguishment of the fire. Rescue companies performed a rapid search of the home which confirmed the report of the occupants self-evacuating prior to the Fire Department’s arrival.”

No injuries were reported, and officials said two pets were safely retrieved from the home by fire personnel.

The fire was brought under control in approximately 45 minutes, according to officials.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Stratford Fire Marshal’s office.

“The Bridgeport, Shelton and Milford Fire Departments provided coverage during the incident duration,” officials wrote in the news release. “Stratford EMS was also called to the scene for incident support. The Red Cross responded to the scene for assistance to the occupants.

“The Stratford Fire Department would like to remind our residents to have working smoke detectors, regularly practice an escape plan for residential homes, and call 911 immediately upon observation of smoke or fire.”
