1. Road Closure In Place For Final Phase Of Project In Stratford (patch.com) — River Road (Route 110) in Stratford is closed to traffic through Sept. 19 while the state and Eversource replace a 100-year-old utility tower, according to Mayor David Chess. A detour from Main Street to Main Street Putney is in place, and town officials say they're coordinating with police, fire, EMS, and nearby businesses to keep disruptions manageable.
2. Stratford CrierSTARS Seeks Community Support for Neglected Dog Found in Stratford (stratfordcrier.com) — A Stratford rescue group is urgently asking residents to help fund intensive veterinary care for Wiley, a severely neglected German Shepherd found near Roosevelt Forest. STARS supports animals at Stratford Animal Care & Control and says rising medical costs are straining its budget, so even small online donations can directly help Wiley and future shelter pets get treatment and a better chance at adoption.
3. Connecticut reacts to death of Dolly Parton (wfsb.com) — Connecticut leaders are mourning Dolly Parton, highlighting how her Imagination Library brought free books to young children in communities including Stratford. Officials say her literacy program, run locally through United Way partners, has already mailed hundreds of thousands of age-appropriate books to kids and will continue her legacy of supporting early reading and families across the state.
4. 'Insane.' Two men connected to power tool theft ring arrested following police standoff in Trumbull hotel (news12.com) — A Stratford resident was among hotel guests stunned by a tense police standoff at the Trumbull Marriott Shelton, where officers arrested three people tied to a multistate power tool theft ring. Authorities say the suspects threatened to shoot police and U.S. Marshals as parts of the hotel were evacuated, and they expect more arrests as the investigation continues.
