STRATFORD, CT — A Stratford man forced a woman out of a moving vehicle at gunpoint in Waterford, according to police.
Police responded following a report of a woman being forced out of a vehicle at 4:23 p.m. Saturday in the area of the Waterford Speedbowl on Route 85.
A man driving the vehicle was carrying a gun and took the woman's money before forcing her out, according to police.
The woman suffered injuries to her leg and arms. She was taken by ambulance to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.
Police broadcast a description of the man and the vehicle. East Lyme police located the vehicle and driver in the area Samuel M Peretz/Bride Brook Park located on West Main Street, Niantic.
Police took custody of the man after he left the vehicle and tried to walk away. Police found a gun close by on park grounds believed to be tied to the case.
Kieyhon Shelton, 20, of Stratford, was arrested and charged with with evading responsibility/physical injury, carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, second-degree larceny, first-degree robbery, possession of a stolen firearm, criminal possession of a firearm while subject to a retraining or protective order, third-degree assault, first-degree threatening while displaying a firearm and first-degree unlawful restraint.
Shelton was held on $250,000 bond and scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Monday.
