STRATFORD, CT — A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in connection with a "severely emaciated" puppy that was found roaming in Stratford, according to the Stratford Animal Control.

Officials said the male puppy, who has now been named "Happy," was found around 7:40 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, on Ferry Boulevard in Stratford.

"He is nothing but skin and bones," the animal control wrote in a post on Facebook. "His body is suffering from skin issues, and he is absolutely terrified. But perhaps one of the most heartbreaking discoveries was that his stool was filled with acorns. This poor baby was so desperately hungry that he had resorted to eating whatever he could find just to fill his empty stomach.

"He is just a puppy. He should be playing, growing, and learning to trust people. Instead, he has been struggling just to survive.

"No animal should ever know this level of hunger, fear, or neglect. Somewhere, someone knows who owned this puppy and how he ended up in this condition."

Officials said Desmond's Army Animal Law Advocates is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the person or persons responsible for the starvation and abandonment of this puppy. The reward offer expires in 90 days.

Anyone who recognizes the puppy, knows who owned him, or has any information about how he ended up roaming on Ferry Boulevard, is asked to email Stratford Animal Care & Control at acos@townofstratford.com.

"Even the smallest piece of information could help," officials wrote. "Please check your cameras, share his photo, and help us find answers. This little boy cannot tell us what happened to him. We need our community to be his voice.

"He has already suffered far more than any puppy ever should. Now he deserves safety, kindness, a full belly, and a chance to experience what being loved truly feels like."
