Roaming Dog Found In ‘Heartbreaking Condition’: Stratford Animal Control

"We don't know how long Eugene has been suffering, but one look at his little face tells us he has been through far too much."

STRATFORD, CT — A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in connection with a dog that was found roaming in Stratford in "heartbreaking condition," according to the Stratford Animal Control.

Officials said the dog, who has now been named "Eugene," was found Wednesday roaming on Barnum Avenue in Stratford.

"We don't know how long Eugene has been suffering, but one look at his little face tells us he has been through far too much," the animal control wrote in a post on Facebook.

Eugene's eyes appear "severely compromised, and his fur is filthy and matted," according to the animal control.

Eugene is currently receiving veterinary care, according to officials.

"We don't yet know the full extent of his medical problems or what treatment he will need, but we are going to do everything we can to give him a chance at a better life," officials wrote. "No animal should have to suffer like this. Eugene didn't deserve to be wandering the streets in this condition, and he certainly didn't deserve to be forgotten."

Officials said the non-profit organization Desmond's Army Animal Law Advocates is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for Eugene's condition.

The reward is valid for 90 days and is subject to Desmond's Army's reward terms.

Anyone who recognizes Eugene, knows who owns him, or has information about how he ended up in this condition, is asked to contact Stratford Animal Care & Control at 203-385-4068 or acos@townofstratford.com.

The animal control is also raising funds for Eugene's medical care. Click here for more information.

"Our Animal Care & Control Officers see heartbreaking cases far too often, but thanks to our incredible supporters and our nonprofit partner, Stratford Animal Rescue Society (STARS), animals like Eugene have a fighting chance," officials wrote. "Every donation, no matter how small, helps provide veterinary treatment, medications, and the care these innocent animals so desperately need."
