Attempted Child Abduction Determined To Be Unfounded: Stratford Police

STRATFORD, CT — A report of an attempted child abduction in Stratford has been deemed to be not credible, according to police.

Stratford police were made aware of an attempted child abduction that was reported to have happened on July 29.

Based on the investigation, police said detectives determined that there was “no evidence to support that an attempted child abduction occurred and deemed that the report was not credible.”

“The Stratford Police Department Detective Bureau immediately initiated an extensive investigation into the reported incident,” police wrote in a news release. “As with all reports involving the safety of children, Detectives thoroughly examined the circumstances, conducted interviews, and reviewed all available video evidence.”

As part of the investigation, police said detectives identified and located the van described in the initial report.

The vehicle was determined to belong to an uninvolved delivery driver, and police said the investigation “found no evidence that the driver was involved in any criminal activity.”

“The Stratford Police Department understands that reports of this nature can cause significant concern within the community,” police wrote. “We want to reassure residents that every report involving the safety of a child is treated with the utmost seriousness and investigated thoroughly.”
