Baby Delivered By Stratford EMS Crew On Way To Hospital

The first responders were honored for their efforts in helping to bring the baby into the world.

STRATFORD, CT — Stratford first responders were honored for delivering a baby boy en route to the hospital last week. Stratford Emergency Medical Services encountered multiple calls simultaneously on the morning of Oct. 3. In addition to the maternity call, crews responded to a pediatric difficulty breathing call.

“Our new paramedic expansion program (which began on 8/20/2018) enabled us to have adequate ambulance crews staffed (in particular the midnight shift, where we now have two ambulances on duty),” Stratford EMS wrote in a post on its Facebook page. “This enabled SEMS to respond promptly to both serious emergencies without needing Mutual Aid from other towns.

“Special Note, SEMS Paramedic Molly Byron, EMT David Ickowitz & Stratford FF Matthew Guerin of the FD First Responder crew, attended to the maternity call. A healthy baby boy was delivered by the crew in the field, enroute to the hospital. Both mother and baby are doing fine.
