Bunnell Boys' Basketball Wins First State Championship
Bulldogs pull away from Naugatuck with dominant fourth quarter.
The Bunnell boys’ basketball team claimed its first state championship in school history with a 72-61 victory over Naugatuck in the Class L title game Sunday afternoon at Mohegan Sun Arena.
The fifth-seeded Bulldogs led 44-39 at the end of the third quarter and put the game away with a dominant fourth quarter.
Bunnell led 26-24 at halftime.

The Bulldogs lost in the semifinals the past two seasons but the third time proved to be the charm this year.
Bunnell went the distance and defeated Bassick 80-79 in overtime in the semifinals last Thursday night and completed the historic journey with Sunday’s victory at Mohegan Sun.

“We took care of business and I’m happy for our team,” longtime coach Pat Yerina told Joe Morelli of GameTimeCT.com/New Haven Register.
Aaron Samuel scored a team-high 21 points for Bunnell, while Donte Peeler had 17 points and eight rebounds and Ryan Pittman finished with 12 points, eight assists, five rebounds and two steals.
