“These fire conditions prompted an upgraded response to a second alarm assignment including the remaining on duty companies for a working fire,” according to a news release from Stratford Fire Chief Jermaine B. Atkinson. “Additional staffing was immediately available based on storm coverage in Town as a result of the winter storm. This staffing provided a force multiplier in rapid extinguishment of the fire.

“Crews worked quickly to establish a primary water supply which was immediately available since the fire hydrant was shoveled out and accessible. Rescue companies performed a rapid search of the home which had no occupants while under construction.”

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Stratford Fire Marshals Office. The Bridgeport and Milford Fire Departments provided station coverage during the incident, according to officials.

“The Stratford Fire department would like to remind our residents to have working smoke detectors, regularly practice an escape plan for residential homes, ensure fire hydrants are cleared out after snow storms and call 911 immediately upon observation of smoke or fire,” officials wrote in the news release.
