Dancing Man Shoots Self in Leg in Stratford

The man ended up getting arrested for the incident.

Stratford, CT — A Stratford man accidentally shot himself in the leg while dancing, and apparently intoxicated, and ended up getting arrested, according to the Connecticut Post.

Stratford Police arrested Keil Helenese, 32, of Bridgeport on July 3 for weapons-related charges.

Helenese was at a picnic on Quail Street when a firearm he was carrying fell out of the holster, according to Lt. Frank Eannotti

Eannotti said in a press release that Helenese re-holstered the weapon and negligently discharged one round from the weapon. The bullet struck him in the hip.

The Post reports responding officers found Helenese in his underwear holding a bloody rag on his leg and smelling heavily of alcohol. Helenese told police that he had been dancing with friends when a gun on his right hip went off, according to the Post.

He was treated and released from the hospital and then was arrested and charged with carrying a firearm while intoxicated, unlawful discharge and reckless endangerment.

Helenese is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on July 14.
