Emotional Beam-Signing Ceremony Held for Victoria Soto School
Stratford school named after Newtown first-grade teacher killed in Sandy Hook tragedy will open in fall of 2015.
A beam signing ceremony was held Thursday afternoon for the school that will be named in honor of Victoria Soto, the first-grade teacher from Stratford killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary school tragedy in Newtown in December 2012.
The Victoria Soto School will be built alongside the Johnson House School and replace Honeyspot as part of the Stratford Academy Complex and will open in the fall of 2015, according to the Connecticut Post.
The Post reports the 36,000 square foot structure will have 10 classrooms for 290 kindergarten through second graders and will also be a model for security.

Stratford Superintendent of Schools Janet Robinson was Newtown’s school superintendent at the time of the tragedy and said she hired Soto, according to the Post.
“Her enthusiasm was so great,” Robinson told the Post. “It is only fitting that this school is named after such a heroic teacher.”
