The calls included six fires, two separate crashes on Route 15 that happened at the same time, and more, according to officials.

STRATFORD, CT — The Stratford Fire Department responded to 23 calls within a 12-hour period last Thursday, according to officials.

The responses included 12 EMS calls, six fire calls, three motor vehicle accidents and two service calls, according to a post on the Stratford Professional Firefighters IAFF 998 union’s Facebook page.

“Amongst these calls were an oven fire and a fire at a loading dock,” officials wrote in the post. “There were also two separate accidents on RT 15 that occurred at the same time. One was a three-car accident and the other involved two vehicles where a tree had fallen onto the highway. Less than an hour later a vehicle struck a tree head on and rolled over. This vehicle was also on fire. Fortunately, an off-duty police officer saw the accident and was able to safely remove the driver. He was treated and transported by Stratford EMS personnel.

“Even with all of this occurring throughout the day members also performed four smoke detector surveys. We finished off the evening by assisting the current EMT program being run by Stratford EMS. These students were shown the ins and outs of extricating patients from a vehicle. This is vital hands-on experience that they will need for their future in EMS. We would like to remind all residents that should they need smoke detectors installed or would simply like to have their home checked for proper installation to please call the Fire Marshal's office at 203-385-4073 to make an appointment.”
