The Stratford Library will present the Frank Porto Band in a special concert celebrating the Great American Songbook on Monday, July 20 at 7 pm. Sponsored by the Claudia McCoach Memorial Fund, the concert is free and open to the public.
The Frank Porto Band is often called “a vibrant small band with a big band sound.” It consists of six members covering piano, bass, drums, sax, trumpet and vocals. Led by Edward Bednarski of Stratford, the Library concert will include music from Sinatra to the Jersey Boys, show tunes, the Big Band Era and the Great American Songbook. During the Korean War Edward Bednarski performed with the U.S. Army Band, swing and classical, on the Armed Forces Network in Germany. He studied musical arrangement with Bill Finegan, an arranger for Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey among other legends. He took over leadership of the Frank Porto Band in 2006 when Porto passed away.
The Frank Porto Band will perform in the air-conditioned Lovell Room of the Stratford Library from 7-8 pm on July 20. Doors open at 6:30 pm. General seating. For further information call the library at: 203.385-4162 or visit the library website.
