Garage Fire Displaces 2 In Stratford
The garage fire extended to the house, according to officials.
STRATFORD, CT — Two people were displaced from their home after a fire Saturday afternoon in Stratford, according to officials.
The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the family – two adults – after a fire on Garfield Avenue in Stratford.
“The Red Cross also provided a recovery envelope containing information helpful to families recovering from a fire, including tips on cleanup; notification of important contacts; dealing with damaged items and more,” officials wrote in a news release. “The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant; shaving supplies and other items a resident might need when suddenly displaced from their home by a fire.”

Crews responded to Garfield Avenue around 12 noon on the report of a garage fire, according to a post on the Stratford Professional Firefighters IAFF 998 union’s Facebook page.
“While enroute E3 confirmed a working fire due to the amount of smoke visible in the distance,” officials wrote in the post. “E1 arrived and reported that the fire had extended to the house. The main body of the fire was knocked down quickly. Units remained on scene performing overhaul and waiting for UI to cut the power due to multiple electrical lines arcing. This fire was handled by E1, E2, E3, Tac 5, Trk 1 and Car 3.”

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Stratford Fire Marshal’s office.
