Layoffs Announced In Stratford School District: Report

Dozens of educators are facing layoffs.

STRATFORD, CT — As many as 40 educators are slated to be laid off in Stratford next month, as the town grapples with nearly $3 million in cuts to state education funding to the district, reports the Stratford Star.

School officials had hoped to use a furlough system to reduce costs, but the notion was turned down by the teachers' union, according to the publication. Union officials called the move potentially destructive to the education process.

School system custodians and secretaries agreed to take furloughs, which will begin next month and run though the end of the year.
