Legalizing Marijuana

As we here in Connecticut await the completion of the legalization of medical marijuana , I would like to bring to your attention the start of legalized  recreational marijuana in Washington State. I will start with cost. Don’t forget that there is everywhere in the U.S. the illegal sale of marijuana known as “the price on the street”.

In Washington State, Cannabis can now be legally obtained from a state certified store. No “mom and pop shops” here. You must be twenty one to buy it. The cost for the minimum amount is $25.00 per gram and a tax of 25%.  So you will be paying $31.25 for weed that would cost you between $5.00 and $10.00 “on the street”. So multiply this out. One ounce of weed, which is 28.35 grams, would cost you $885.93 legally, which can be obtained “on the street” for approx. $200.00. Is this why marijuana was made legal? Washington State has also applied a criminal application for a form of DWI, under the influence of cannabis. Since it is already known that you can smoke a joint and the residue of that joint can be detected for weeks and sometimes months depending on the strength of the cannibus, how can a DUI charge be adjudicated?

Connecticut is a different story. This is to medically assist people, with recognized illness’, in alleviating certain symptoms. None of these are what would be called cures but all of these illnesses involve the reduction in quality of life for these afflicted people. Other than the announcement of this program, there has been very little information regarding questions people may have. The illnesses covered are Glaucoma, HIV, Aids, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Damage to the Nervous Tissue of the Spinal Cord with Objective Neurological Indication of Intractable Spasticity, Epilepsy, Cachexia, Crohn's Disease, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, do you get my drift, will these disorders be covered by your insurance?, ask your agent.

If you or any one you know and love, has been effected by any of these things, if you don’t speak out, the NIMBY, the insurance and pharmaceutical companies are going to bleed you dry.  M. H. Griffin
