Local Business Donates $5K To Stratford Child Literacy Program

Via Sikorsky Credit Union: STRATFORD, CT — Sikorsky Credit Union has donated $5,000 to the Stratford chapter of Imagination Library, a book gifting program that provides free books to children from birth until they begin school.

The Imagination Library was started in 1995 by singer Dolly Parton to provide free, high-quality books to young children. Since this program started, over 100 million books have been given to children around the world. These efforts are important as studies have shown that children who are read to do better with reading and financial literacy later in life.

“We are happy to donate money to help children get access to books. Reading is an important part of a child’s development. We’re very excited to be part of this program,” Vincent Ciambriello, president and CEO of Sikorsky Credit Union, said.

The Imagination Library in Stratford will ensure that over 1,600 children under age 5 will receive one age-appropriate book per month.
