Men Attempted to Rob Deli in Stratford: Police

The three suspects were arrested soon after the attempted robbery and a 9mm handgun was found inside their vehicle, according to police.

STRATFORD, CT — Three men are in custody and have been charged with an attempted robbery of Checkers Deli, according to Stratford Police.

Bridgeport residents Dishaun Brown, 39, and Desmond Hunter, 26, along with Davon Taylor, 22, of Stratford, were arrested Nov. 30 following a robbery attempt at Checkers Deli, located at 1796 Barnum Avenue, according to Capt. Frank Eannotti.

Eannotti said all three were taken into custody after a short foot pursuit and subsequent motor vehicle stop.

“A 9mm handgun was recovered inside the vehicle,” Eannotti said in a press release. “The loaded magazine for the weapon was located later on Barnum Avenue near Noble Street where the suspects discarded it.”

  • Conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery
  • Interfering with an officer
  • Carrying a fire arm without a permit
  • Weapons in a motor vehicle
  • Carrying a gun without a permit
  • Altering ID on a firearm

All three were held on $150,000 bonds and are scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Court on Dec. 9.
