Obituary: Edmond Kiely, 92, Of Stratford

A longtime Stratford resident, he joined the ROTC program where he became a Drill Sergeant and then started his long career at Sikorsky.

STRATFORD, CT — (From Pistey Funeral Home): Edmond Kiely, 92, of Stratford, passed away December 15, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Bridgeport, CT on October 27, 1930, son of Edward and Lena (Michaels) Kiely. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Slais Kiely, on May 9, 2014. They had been married for 59 years upon her death.

He is survived by his beloved children, Karen Kiely (James Schlenk), Elizabeth Hebert, Michael Kiely, Edward Kiely (Lynn), John Kiely (Michelle) and Barbara Kiely; grandchildren Sarah Conder (Danny), Emily Kiely, John Kiely, Gabriella Kiely, Kevin Kiely, Joseph Kiely, Michelle Kiely and Brenna Kiely and great-grandchildren, Kiely, Kaitlyn and Kourtney Conder. Ed was also predeceased by his sister, Madeline O'Connor and brother, Joseph Kiely.

Ed was a man of great faith, generosity and kindness. He had a smile that would light up the room and he could literally talk your ears off. A longtime resident of Stratford, Ed graduated from Fairfield Prep and Fairfield University, joined the ROTC program where he became a Drill Sergeant and then started his long career at Sikorsky where he was an engineer and ran the wind tunnel testing program.

Upon retirement, Ed built a wood working workshop and made over 125 Christmas Tree Stands and almost 30 Iceboxes which he gave to special family, friends, churches and hospitals. He was a member of the Lordship Fathers’ Club for many years as well as Oronoque Country Club where he played golf with the Clowns. He enjoyed watching all sports, but especially the Mets, Giants and UCONN Huskies basketball, both men and women.

The family would like to especially thank granddaughter Sarah for her expertise and dedication to keeping Ed as healthy as possible until the end. We would also like to thank Comfort Caregivers for their service providing aides over the past 5 years. A special thanks to Shirley Ntloko, AKA Betty, AKA “Gladys Teetocker” for her loving care and Brian Jakabcin from HHC Hospice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on December 31, 2022, at Our Lady of Peace Church, Stratford, at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Swim Across the Sound or the Our Lady of Peace Sanctuary Fund.
