Obituary: Fred Thomas Hainsworth Jr., 96, Of Stratford
He served as a Navy Fireman First Class during WWII in the Pacific Theater and was honorably discharged in 1946.

STRATFORD, CT — (From Pistey Funeral Home): Fred Thomas Hainsworth Jr., 96, passed away at his home in Lordship on Sunday, August 28, 2022, surrounded by his loving children.
Fred was born on March 27, 1926 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to the late Fred T. Hainsworth Sr. and Anna F. Hainsworth (Gomperts).
Fred was raised in Bridgeport and graduated early from Harding High School in 1943 at the age of 17 1/2 years old. He served as a Navy Fireman First Class during WWII in the Pacific Theater and was honorably discharged in 1946.

Fred had a long career working for various phone companies and later retired as an electrician for Metro North Railroad.
Fred’s passion was restoring Volkswagen Beetles. He also enjoyed collecting antiques and junk, watching tennis and following UCONN Women’s Basketball.

Fred was predeceased by his parents, his brother Robert Hainsworth and his infant son Timothy.
Fred is survived by his sister, Ruth Buynovsky of Stratford, his six children: Debbie Scott, Fred Hainsworth III, Starr Bullington, John Hainsworth (Pam), Mary Caprio (Russ) and Matthew Hainsworth. He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral mass to be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church 651 Stratford Road, Stratford.
Burial with military honors to follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Bridgeport.
