Obituary: Rev. Andrew G. Marus, 72

He had been the pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Church in Stratford since 2003.

Reverend Andrew G. Marus, Pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Stratford, passed away on March 26, at New York Community Hospital in Brooklyn at the age of 72.

Rev. Marus was born in Bridgeport to the late George and Yolanda (Lastomirsky) Marus. Father Andy graduated from St. John Nepomucene School in Bridgeport and Notre Dame High School in Fairfield. He graduated from St. Mary Seminary in Baltimore in 1971. Rev. Marus was ordained by the Most Rev. Walter Curtis in 1971 at St. Augustine Cathedral. He had been the pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Church in Stratford since 2003.

Rev. Marus spent one year at the University of Notre Dame where he became an avid fan of ND football and traveled annually to games. He also was a fan of the NY Giants and NY Yankees. Father Andy loved to travel and enjoyed annual trips to Walt Disney World.

Survivors include one beloved sister, Mary Ann Marus of Stratford; and cousin Marianne Chedister and her husband, James, of Trumbull.

The body of Reverend Marus will be received at 9 am on Monday, April 2, 2018 at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1950 Barnum Avenue in Stratford. Calling hours will be from 9 to 11 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following at 11 am. Most Reverend Frank J. Caggiano will be the principal celebrant. Interment will take place following the Funeral Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull.

In lieu of flowers, those who so desire may make contributions in his memory to either Holy Name of Jesus Church; American Heart Assoc., 5 Brookside Dr., Wallingford, CT 06492; or National Kidney Foundation, 1463 Highland Ave., Cheshire, CT 06410.
