Obituary: Robert ‘Bob’ E. Scholz, 91, of Stratford

Bob, a Stratford High graduate who served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, began his engineering career with Avco-Lycoming in 1954.

Robert “Bob” E. Scholz, 91, of Stratford, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the widower of Mary Andrews Scholz. Born in Bridgeport on June 5, 1927 he was a son of the late Herman and Lillian Schmidt Scholz.

Bob graduated Stratford High School in 1945, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He graduated from the University of Bridgeport and began his engineering career with Avco-Lycoming in 1954 and was the Senior Vice President in charge of the Special Products division from 1968 until his departure in 1971. After a brief stint with Dresser Industries he joined Ferro Corporation in 1974 where he remained until his retirement in 1992.

During his tenure at Ferro, Bob served as a senior officer in SAMPE, The Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering, for many years.

Survivors include his loving sons and their spouses; Gerald (Annette) Scholz of Orlando, FL, Robert J. (Sherry) Scholz of Poughkeepsie, NY and Christopher (Donna) Scholz of Stratford. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Mary (Jonathan) Soriano, Robert (Stephanie) Scholz and other extended grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Judy Scholz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Grace Church, Stratford with Fr. Norman Guilbert officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Friday Morning from 9 to 10 am at the Dennis & D’Arcy – Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street, Stratford .
