Obituary: Stephen John Chalfa, 85; Stratford Native
He was the retired owner/operator of S.C. Hearing Center, Stratford and worked for John Hancock for over 20 years.

Stephen John Chalfa, 85, of Seymour, CT and previously of Stratford, CT, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2018 in the Lord Chamberlain Nursing facility, Stratford. Mr. Chalfa was born February 27, 1933 in Bridgeport, son of the late Mary LaPutz, Stephen Chalfa and step father, George Cuventas.
Stephen was a 1950 graduate of Stratford High School and a lifetime area resident. He was the retired owner/operator of S.C. Hearing Center, Stratford and worked for John Hancock for over 20 years. He was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War and served aboard the USS Oriskany which was the first aircraft carrier to round Cape Horn.

He was a member of the Raymond Goldbach Post 9460 and the USS Oriskany Reunion Association. He was an avid reader, loved books and appreciated the great assistance of Bob Carmona and staff at the Derby Neck Library.
Survivors include his four children, Edward Chalfa and his partner Erica, Thomas Chalfa and his wife Lisa, Marybeth Chalfa and Wendy Maione and her husband Angelo; grandchildren, Palace and Griffin Chalfa, Joseph Macedonia, Josh Chalfa, Cameron and Sadie Woodring and Alessandro and Ariana Maione, Michelina Adinolfi, Angelina Seznec and Giuseppe Maione; one great-grandson, Gavin Chalfa; three siblings, Dr. Nicolai Chalfa, George Cuventas and Ilona Gienger and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Kenneth and two sisters, Arlene Phoenix and Marilyn Bilcheck.
Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Father Thomas Walsh on Saturday December 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Joseph’s Church, Stratford Road, Stratford.
Interment with Military Honors will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford.
Friends may visit with his family Friday, December 21, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford.
