Obituary: Theresa Fernandes, 67, Of Stratford

STRATFORD, CT — (From Adzima Funeral Home): Theresa Fernandes, 67, of Stratford, passed away on May 8, 2023, after a yearlong battle with cancer. Theresa was born in New York City to her late parents Anthony & Tina Marafino.

Theresa worked as a merchandising representative, serving many retail outlets in Stratford and surrounding towns. Her favorite job was working for the commercial airlines that used to operate out of Bridgeport Airport. Those years with the airlines allowed Theresa to develop a true love of travel.

Theresa had a passion for cooking and loved trying out new recipes to bring to picnics and parties. Whenever she was invited out, her first question would be, “What can I bring?”

Theresa was a family-oriented person and loved to get together with family and friends whenever possible, and could be counted on for weddings, birthdays, and holidays. She was also an avid traveler who always enjoyed Walt Disney World - her “Happy Place.”

Theresa traveled the world and saw many wonderful things but what gave her the greatest joy, and what she was most proud of, was raising two smart and successful children.

Theresa touched many lives, and was loved by many who will remember her dearly. She is survived by her husband of 43-years, Michael G. Fernandes, her daughter Ann White with her husband Garth, and two beloved grandchildren, Carter and Mallory; her son Michael A. Fernandes, and his wife Delilah.

Theresa’s family includes a sister Barbara Medlin and her husband George, with nephews, George and Kyle. A brother Anthony Marafino and his wife Deana, with three nephews, Anthony, John, and Brandon. A brother, Michael Ryan with wife Barbara, nephew Christopher, and niece Jennifer. Her sister Diane Erdil, who was survived by her husband David, and niece Laura, predeceased Theresa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 3, at 10 a.m. at Saint Catherine of Siena Church, 220 Shelton Rd, Trumbull, CT. Interment will immediately follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 1056 Daniels Farm Rd, Trumbull, CT. There will be no visitation hours.
