Optimum to Close Stratford, Shelton Facilities; Lay Off 600 Employees

STRATFORD, CT — Altice USA, the new owner of Cablevision and Optimum, announced that it will be closing its facilities in Stratford and Shelton, resulting in layoffs for about 600 people.

NBC Connecticut reports the back office operations in Stratford and customer call center in Shelton will be closed, but the changes won’t impact field service technicians.

The employees that are being laid off will have the opportunity to apply for open Alice positions in New York City, Long Island and New Jersey, according to the Connecticut Post.

The Post reports that the company’s News 12 operations in Norwalk will not be impacted by the layoffs and the facilities are expected to be closed in November.

An Altice spokesperson told WTNH News 8 that advances in technology have resulted in a decrease in the volume of calls over the past several years.

Connecticut customers will see no change in service, but their calls will now be directed to centers in New York and New Jersey, according to WTNH.
