Oscar Winner Screens at Stratford Library

“Monday Matinees” Series Continues Through August

The Stratford Library’s “Monday Matinees” series continues with a screening of the 2013 “Best Picture” Oscar winner, “12 Years a Slave” on June 30. The series presents recent, popular films twice monthly on Monday afternoons at noon from June-August. The film showings are free and open to the public.

“12 Years a Slave” is an honest, devastating chronicle about a "free man of color" who is kidnapped and sold back into slavery. In addition to the top Oscar win, actress Lupita Nyong'o was also cited as "Best Supporting Actress" for her brilliant performance as a brutalized slave. The film is rated R and runs 134 minutes.

The summer series will continue in July with showings of “Gravity" (July 14) and “American Hustle” (July 28).
