Outdoor Shakespeare Show Coming To Stratford
Enjoy the summer weather and take in some culture at the same time.
STRATFORD, CT — Stratford residents can enjoy Shakespeare in an outdoor setting during the coming weekend, when the Hudson Shakespeare Company will return to town for a production of "As You Like It." The show, which is fully staged and costumed, will be performed in the library's back courtyard.
“Being that it’s set in a forest with no new huge battles or court intrigues, the play lends itself really well to performances in parks and more intimate settings like libraries,” Hudson director Jon Ciccarelli stated in a news release. “We decided to go back to basics with the show and set it in a medieval world full of pageantry, impromptu songs and love of the fairy tale world. The show is very musical so we’ve highlighted that with lots of live instruments and some recorded music."
The performance is free and will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday. Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. The library is located at 2203 Main St. In the event of inclement weather, the play will move inside to the library’s air-conditioned Lovell Room.
