Overnight Fire Displaces Family Of 3 In Stratford

A firefighter was hospitalized after suffering a minor burn injury, according to fire officials.

STRATFORD, CT — Three people were displaced from their home after an overnight fire on James Street in Stratford, according to fire officials.

Crews responded to the fire in the 1000 block of James Street around 3:30 a.m. Three adults were asleep at the time of the fire and were alerted by smoke alarms inside the home, according to Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal Robert Daniel.

The first-arriving crew reported smoke was visible from the roof and a working structure fire was called, according to Daniel.

“Under the command of Assistant Chief Reitmeyer, Engines 1, 2, 3, 4, Tac5 and Truck 1 responded with a total of 22 firefighters and 1 Safety Officer,” Daniel wrote in a news release. “The fire was located inside the attic of the 1,300 square foot, Cape Cod style single family home. The fire was under control in approximately 30 minutes. The Milford Fire Dept. provided RIT at the scene and the Bridgeport Fire Dept. provided station coverage during the incident.”

Daniel said one Stratford firefighter suffered a minor burn injury and was treated and released from Bridgeport Hospital.

The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the family of three.

The origin and cause of the fire is being investigated by the Stratford Fire Marshal’s office, according to Daniel.
