Person Not Found After Search Of Housatonic River: Stratford Police (UPDATE)

STRATFORD, CT — A search for a missing Florida man in the Housatonic River on Wednesday yielded no results, according to Stratford Police.

Shortly after midnight on June 7, Tavares Harris, 26, of Florida, crashed his SUV into the protective railing on the Devon Bridge, according to Capt. Frank Eannotti. (To sign up for Stratford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Eannotti said Harris then exited his vehicle and jumped from the bridge.

“Officers and firefighters from several towns initiated a search for Harris,” Eannotti said in a press release. “The search included marine units, aviation units as well as K-9 civilian volunteers and police and fire dive team. The Housatonic River was searched throughout the day and night but Harris could not be located.”

Police are continuing the investigation, according to Eannotti.
