Family, Friends, Acquaintances
We all need connection. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs demonstrates the need for healthy and functioning family and friend relationships. We also may need to be acquainted with others that share similar interests or values. It is vital to pinpoint whom in your life is the most important to you.
Priority Defined
Priority is defined as: Precedence, especially established by order of importance or urgency; something afforded or deserving prior attention. The concept of importance is different for everyone; especially given time constraints, resources and personal subjectivity. Check your to-do list and adjust accordingly to what will give your life the most meaning and productivity.
Urgent tasks
For some, an urgent task is something you MUST do today, or else suffer the consequences(work deadline, etc…). Defining what is “urgent” and what can wait is difficult and tedious at times. Maybe you think that a task is urgent, but maybe it can wait a few days; or a week. Make a list of what is both important and urgent. E.G. You will begin to see that calling your Doctor for a physical is important, but not may be urgent(perhaps you aren’t due for 3 Months.)
Play to your Strengths
When it comes to time management, priority handling, and organization; it is vital to play to your strengths. Are you a morning person that can accomplish a lot before 9am? Or, maybe a night owl who gets your second or third wind in the evening? Commit to doing certain tasks at the time you are most energized, if possible. Obviously, career and family obligations fill our time up on a daily and weekly basis.
What activities inspire you?
What activities inspire and get you going? Engaging in what you enjoy most will energize your mind and body. Too tired to exercise after a long day? Try just 10 minutes and see how your energy level changes. The better you take of yourself, the more vigor you will possess to get you to follow through on your top priorities. Life/Work Balance is different for everyone. A skillful coach will determine a unique approach for each client;depending on their age, lifestyle and goals.
