The warrant stems from a lengthy investigation into alleged narcotics sales in Stratford, police said. During the service of the warrant Rucker allegedly “attacked officers with a hammer.” Rucker was shot in the left hand and immediately dropped his weapon and surrendered to officers, police said.
The incident and subsequent search by narcotics investigators resulted in a seizure of heroin, numerous pills and approximately ½ kilograms of cocaine, police said.

Police were conducting a search warrant at 25 Yarwood St. on Sept. 11 around 5 a.m., said Trooper First Class Kelly Grant.
William Rucker, 41, of Roosevelt Avenue allegedly approached officers with a weapon, not a firearm. The suspect disobeyed orders to stop, Grant said. Officer Paul Giegengack, a seven-year veteran, then discharged his weapon.
Rucker received non-life threatening injuries and no Stratford officers were hurt.
Stratford Police and the Bridgeport States Attorney’s Office requested that State Police handle the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. The investigation remains open.
