Resident, Pets Evacuated From House Fire In Stratford

STRATFORD, CT — A resident and family pets were safely evacuated from a house fire in Stratford on Friday, according to officials.

Firefighters responded around 6:20 p.m. to multiple 911 calls reporting a house fire with occupants trapped at a home on Sedgwick Avenue in Stratford, according to a news release from Fire Chief Jermaine B. Atkinson.

“Upon arrival of the first due apparatus, fire crews immediately initiated an aggressive search for the reported trapped occupants, while simultaneously deploying multiple hose lines for fire extinguishment,” according to the news release. “Fire conditions intensified and additional alarms were transmitted summoning Milford and Bridgeport fire units to the scene for additional manpower. The initial and secondary searches of the home showed no residents trapped and Stratford PD escorted one resident to safety and assisted in removal of the pets from the home.”

No injuries were reported, and the fire was brought under control in approximately 60 minutes, according to officials.

“The origin and cause of the fire is being investigated by the Stratford Fire Marshals office at this time,” officials wrote. “Stratford EMS and Stratford PD were also on scene for incident support. The Trumbull and Shelton Fire Departments provided station coverage for the duration of the incident. The Red Cross was called to provide support to the residents.

“The Stratford Fire department would like to remind our residents to have working smoke detectors, regularly practice an escape plan for residential homes and call 911 immediately upon observation of smoke or fire.”
