Retired Stratford K-9 Dies, Mourned

K-9 Gunny assisted with countless narcotics searches and tracks and was an "invaluable asset to our department," according to police.

STRATFORD, CT — The Stratford Police Department is mourning the recent death of retired K-9 Gunny.

Gunny, a German Shepherd, was imported from Hungary and partnered with Officer Chris Goode. Gunny served as a K-9 officer from Feb. 2010 through Nov. 2016 and was issued badge No. 9171.

“Gunny was dual certified in patrol utility (tracking, area/article search, apprehension) & narcotics detection,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “During his working years he assisted with countless narcotics searches and tracks; Gunny was an invaluable asset to our department.

“Upon his retirement, Gunny remained with Ofc. Goode in his home. We send our deepest condolences to Ofc. Goode and his family.”
