STRATFORD, CT — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Scott, who nominated Lindsey of Stratford.

How do you know the star local student?

My daughter

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Lindsey is a true pioneer as she is the first female wrestler in Stratford High School. Lindsey is an honor roll student and takes advanced courses with a strong desire for a career in the health care field either as a nurse or a Physician's Assistant.

Lindsey was the first female from Stratford to place in States, has since recruited another female wrestler, and two more have since joined the team for a total of four females wrestling for Stratford High School. Lindsey wrestles year round with Southside Wrestling and travels around the country for various tournaments. One major tournament she wrestled in last year and will be wrestling in again this year, is in Fargo, ND. She worked performing demolition on a construction project, along with a couple of fundraising activities to raise the money needed to attend this tournament. When I asked her how much she needed, her answer was handing me a pile of cash and saying, "I hope this covers it." How many teenagers have the initiative to work to pay for something that requires them to work even harder?

Through the years, Lindsey has helped my career and volunteer fire departments with fundraisers for charities such as Muscular Dystrophy and assisting in the EMS tent at Fairfield's Half Marathon. Lindsey is CPR certified and holds a black belt in karate. She has a strong work ethic, a desire to help people, and excellent leadership qualities (she is one of the Captains for Stratford High's wrestling team).

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

Since becoming the first female wrestler for Stratford High, Lindsey has balanced her academic with her athletic development to the point where she is at the top of her game in both.

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Lindsey!
