STRATFORD, CT — Stratford-based Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. recently received a $107 million contract from the U.S. Navy for work on six CH-53K helicopters, according to the U.S. Department of Defense website. The contract for long lead items on the helicopters is a modification to a previously awarded contract.

"Built to thrive on the modern battlefield, including shipboard operations, the CH-53K aircraft is designed to be intelligent, reliable, low maintenance and survivable in the most austere and remote forward operating bases," states the website of Lockheed Martin Corp., which owns Sikorsky. "The CH-53K helicopter has been designed and built to the exacting standards of the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) and will serve as its critical land and sea based logistics connector."

Work on the contract will be done in Stratford and is expected to be complete in August 2020, according to the Department of Defense.
