Sikorsky Helicopter Involved In Fatal Crash In Ireland

The crash occurred during a rescue mission by the Irish Coast Guard.

STRATFORD, CT — A Sikorsky S-92 helicopter was involved in a fatal crash during an overnight rescue mission in Ireland early Tuesday, according to the Connecticut Post.

In the mission, the Irish Coast Guard was assisting a fishing vessel that required a medical evacuation, according to the Post.

The Irish Times reports that Capt. Dara Fitzpatrick, 45, was recovered in critical condition from the sea early Tuesday but later died. She was the mother of a 3-year-old boy.

The three other crew members from the helicopter remain missing.

A “weak” signal from the helicopter’s black box was detected on Wednesday and the search for the missing crew members continues, according to the Irish Times.
